Article and updates

Hello lovely friends,

A very happy Sunday to you! The sun has finally come out here in Madrid, and I don’t know about you, but I feel a boost immediately!

It has been a rather hectic few weeks, I’m not going to lie. Some things have been great, and others… well, less-than-ideal.

Let’s start with the great things:

  • Three of my clients just booked roles in their target accents FOR THE FIRST TIME! This is huge. A shout out and MASSIVE congratulations to Juan, Anya, and Alice. Well-deserved, and if I could share more, I would!

  • I had my first rehearsal for a very cool short animation film I’m doing (Dialogue, Motion Capture, the works!). It’s going to be brilliant and the team is wonderful!

  • I booked a small role in the series I’m currently coaching on, and I’m really looking forward to being in front of the camera! Away with the idea that we have to stay in our lane.

  • I had the honour of being featured in a major article in my hometown. It was such a wonderful interview (I love when it just feels like a great chat and not an “interview”) and I’m so happy with how it came out. I’m very proud of where I come from, and despite being a very small program, my training was exceptional and it got me where I am now.

You can read the full article here.

And, since we’re all friends, I’ll also share the less ideal things too.

  • We’ve been dealing with home renovations for the last 1.5 years. Our house was meant to finally be done in January, but it all got pushed back. This meant that my filming space for the RP courses wasn’t ready when I anticipated that it would be. So the two RP courses are postponed until further notice. My apologies! Trust me when I say I tried. It was very stressful! But, eventually I had to admit defeat. As soon as I get settled and our house is done, I’ll get them up and running.

  • I booked a fantastic voice job, to record 17 short radio spots. Great money, good gig… and it was cancelled. Bummer!

  • My manager has dropped me. It’s nothing personal, they’re moving in a more production-based direction, have new investors who are looking to shift the business etc… But I really loved my management, so it’s a sad turn of events. I’m sure I’ll find someone else soon (agents- hit me up! lol) and these things always end up being for the best, but it still stung a little. Looking for a new agent wasn’t on the cards for this year, but now it is! Bring it on.

  • In the chaos, the first thing to go for me is always social media. I haven’t figured out how to be consistent with that yet. I’ll keep trying!

It may be a little weird to include the more negative things, but, why not? I do get to dedicate my professional life to things I enjoy. And I’ve been lucky enough to do exclusively that for more than a decade. But we all go through the same struggles (no space to film, agent hunting and dropping you, jobs cancelled…) and I think it’s important to talk about them.

So, I hope you’re having a beautiful day. I’ll be back soon! And yes, I’ll try to post a tiktok or two… hold me to that!

Cheering for you,

Holly
