Great things take patience
Hello my friends! I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend. I’ve had a BUSY few weeks. Medical stuff (my parents, all ok), a lot of work, some auditions, getting ready for all the ADR for the series I spent the last 7 months on, coaching two other projects, and casting a major show I’m directing in the autumn… it’s been wild, fun, a little unexpected, and slightly stressful.
All while writing my BOOK!
You guys… not to toot my own horn, but toot toot.
I’m incredibly proud of what I’m writing. Have you ever had one of those moments where suddenly the whole universe aligns, you enter into a state of flow, and suddenly an idea comes to you and it’s like, THAT’S IT!
That happened with this book. I set out to write what’s perhaps the first (I have yet to find one) book about learning accents that is written for actors, and that doesn’t go into specific accents, but it’s a complete start-to-finish guide to how to learn an accent. It takes you through every single step I use myself, and every single thing that I’ve discovered over the past 23 years or so since I started coaching.
The AHA moment came when I realized every single step of the accent-learning process is directly comparable to something that happens on set.
It sounds insane, I know, but you’ll see when the book comes out, WOW does it ever work!
The thing is that this discovery, combined with general life surprises, has meant that the book is taking slightly longer than expected because I have to restructure what I had. I was meant to release it July 1… which didn’t happen of course! Trust me, I’ll be all over the place talking about it.
Having said that, I was the one that set this date, and I don’t want to rush for the sake of meeting a Deadline. I’d rather keep you all waiting a little longer, and not rush to the finish line. This is already 23 years in the making, so what’s two more weeks?
So, I’m here to let you know, with my head held high, that I need a little more time, and it’s going to be worth it. I pushed a week to those who pre-ordered already, and now I’m officially announcing that the book will come out on WEDNESDAY JULY 15TH.
What to expect: We walk through phases of accent learning, step by step, and all extremely practical.
Development- the main ideas., which accent? Why? Time management. Early prep.
Pre-production- how to research, observe, listen, and plan. Everything that happens BEFORE you actually start doing the accent yourself.
Production- getting your mouth to make the sounds.
Post-production- Putting it all together, editing those sounds into a story with connection, rhythm, intonation, and intention.
Premiere: The final performance of the accent and how it is incorporated into the world of the character.
It’s science and experience based, fun, practical, and truly applicable to any and all accents you’ll want to tackle throughout your career.
Every single step has its own practical call sheet as part of your Accent Bible to go with the Framework so you can follow along and do the work within a structure.
You’re going to love it.
I’m so excited, I’m working my little butt off to make this the best general accent resource in the world, and I thank you for your patience!
I’m cheering for you. Thanks for cheering for me!
